12 November 2012 09:33 pmI've been becoming more interested in Cowboy Action Shooting but, to follow through on that, I would need to have four guns. I have one single action army and am looking to get another just like it. I was also essentially window shopping for a coach gun and a rifle.
At the gun show I came across the rifle I was looking for. Pretty much, anyway. The rifle online was manufactured by Braztech and listed for $560, discounted by the retailer at $415. The one I found at the gunshow harried a Rossi stamp which is exactly the same manufacturer, lists at $600 and was being sold for $550.
Did you get that? Same gun. Same manufacturer. Different names stamped on the gun. Different pricing. You literally pay $40 more for the more respectable Rossi name.
However, this particular gun had some trigger and action work done on it, bringing the pull down to 3 pounds. It also had a Skinner peep sight installed (though it was missing the aperture). That amounts to perhaps $200 worth of improvements. Now, if I wanted to buy the online gun, I would have to go to an FFL dealer to have it shipped, paying the extra shipping and the transfer fee. Plus, it would be a stock gun without the improvements so, all told, I think I was getting a reasonable deal.

At the last gun show, I saw someone that had a coach gun. At $300 it was what I would pay for a new gun but I think it was a used gun. Show pricing. That gun wasn't at the show this time. At this show I saw a SAA much like the one I already have except that it had the 4.75" Civilian barrel instead of the 5.5" Artillery barrel on the gun that I have.
Two more guns to go.
