Grips redux

dime_novel_heroOver New Years 2008, my friend Matt was in Japan and purchased a pair of Tanaka Single Action Army airsoft Peacemakers, one for me and another for him. It took several months for the pistols to clear customs and arrive in the mail but, once I had the pistol in my hands, I immediately began my search for some walnut grips. This was also the foundation of my Steampunk costume as, at the time, I had only started thinking about fleshing that whole thing out.
By May of that year, I had found my wood grips at Braverman Arms in a box of loose grips. Genuine Colt. $50. I was very happy. And by July I had my clothes and a holster for my pistol.
In July of 2009 while I was away on a vacation of riding my bike on the Erie Canalway, my house was burglarized and, among other things, my SAA was stolen. I looked on-line for a way of replacing it but, just as I had looked on-line for it originally and not been able to find it, I had no success. It took a full year for Matt's wife to have an opportunity to return to Japan, return to the retail store that the original pistol had been obtained from, purchase it and ship it to the States. I was very happy in that it was the last one they had in stock and it looked like Tanaka was going to be discontinuing the model.
Thus began again the search for wood grips.
Back to Bravermans and they had an assortment of grips. I bought them both. The first was a pair of generic wood grips that I liked better than the Colt grips I had originally. A nice, glossy grip with prominent grain.
The others were a pair of Jay Scott imitation ivory grips. I didn't particularly like them but Matt was looking for ivory grips for his pistol so I picked them up as well. $25 for each.
It's been a long, circuitous route to return to where this started nearly two years ago.
